Bayern Munich has announced that Spanish midfielder Thiago Alcantara has signed a new deal, which keeps him contracted to the Bundesliga side until 2020.
The 26-year-old midfielder, whose contract is set to expire in two years time, has pledged his loyalty to Carlo Ancelotti’s side until 2021.
Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge says he was pleased to secure the services of one of the best midfielders in Europa on a long-term deal.
‘Thiago is one of the best and most coveted midfielders in Europe,’ Rummenigge told the Bayern Munich website.
‘We’re very pleased as a club to be able to secure the services of such an amazing player for the long term.’
Thiago says that he is enjoying his time at the Allianz Arena and insists that he is looking forward to gaining more success with the German side.
‘My family and I feel at home in Munich. Everything is going well here, and I want to win a lot of trophies here with FC Bayern in the future,’ Thiago said.
The midfielder has netted nine goals in 75 Bundesliga appearances for the Bavarian club, winning three Bundesliga titles, two German Cups, a Uefa Super Cup and a Fifa Club World Cup trophy, and has been capped 20 times by Spain, arrived at the Allianz Arena from Barcelona in 2013.
Meanwhile, the Bundesliga have exercised their option to sign Kingsley Coman from Juventus, with the option set to have expired at the end of April.
The 20-year-old France international, who joined Bayern from Juventus on loan in August 2015, has extended his stay in Munich through to 2020.
‘Kingsley Coman is a crucial player for the future of our team, so we’ve decided to exercise the option,” Rummenigge added
‘Kingsley is a promising player with great potential. We’re convinced he’ll help us in the coming years.’
