After a successful weekend for South African football on the continent, stars from both Mamelodi Sundowns and AmaZulu were selected for the Caf Champions League Team of the Week.
The Brazilians picked up a historic first victory in Cairo with a 1-0 win over Al Ahly and former boss Pitso Mosimane this past Saturday with a late Thapelo Morena winner. The three points take Downs top of group A while putting Mosimane’s charges in a precarious position.
A number of Sundowns players put in a big performance but Kennedy Mweene, Rushine De Rueck and Lyle Lakay were singled out for their displays and named in the team of the week.
Benni McCarthy’s side, on the other hand, edged ES Setif by the same margin at the Moses Mabhida Stadium to pick up their second win of the group stages. Memela was the match-winner on the day where Ushutu could have scored a number of goals.
Memela’s second goal of the group stages was enough to earn him a spot in this week’s side of top performers.
