AmaZulu suffered a setback in their pursuit of qualification for the knockout stages of the Caf Champions League as they were beaten 2-0 by ES Setif in Algeria.
The home side got off to the perfect start as Riad Benayad fired his side into the lead with just 11 minutes gone as he latched onto Ahmed Kendouci’s pass before finding into the bottom corner.
Benni McCarthy’s chargers were not going to lie down and looked to get stuck into the home side from then on and eventually forced an opening on the hour-mark but Sikhakhane missed the target after being picked out by a Buchcanan cross.
The home side, however, pushed forward in the closing stages of the half and the pressure paid off as they doubled their lead on the stroke of the interval after Veli Mothwa could only parry Benayad’s shot into the path of Akram Djahnit who was left with a simple tap in.
Ushutu started the second half brightly and almost pulled one back on the hour -mark when Ntuli’s effort came crashing back off the post.
While the South Africans continued to search for the equaliser, the home side did well to restrict them of any chances and ultimately held on for the 2-0 win.
AmaZulu have now slipped to third in the group.
