Sundowns topped Group A alongside Moroccan giants Wydad Casblanca on six points heading into the encounter against ASEC.
Downs, who defeated the Ivorian side 3-1 at Loftus Versfeld at the start of February, were hoping for a victory to take a big step towards qualification.
The Brazilians, however, were met with some resilient defending by ASEC in game where both sides struggled to create any chances of note.

The result saw Sundowns remain in control of their destiny in the competition as they sit second with seven points, behind only Wydad on goal difference after the Moroccans drew 0-0 with Lobi Stars later in the evening. ASEC and Lobi remain third and fourth respectively on four points, with each side having played four games.
