Bidvest Wits captain Thulani Hlatshwayo congratulated Mamelodi Sundowns on progressing to the semi-final of the Caf Champions League.
The Brazilians advanced to the last four of the continental tournament after claiming a 5-1 aggregate win over Egyptian giants Al Ahly.
Pitso Mosimane’s side will now take on Wydad Casablanca of Morocco in the semi-final after they overpowered Horoya AC 5-0 in their return leg.
Hlatshwayo believes that Sundowns’ exploits in the Champions League will add value and experience to the Bafana Bafana squad when they participate in the 2019 African Cup of Nation in Egypt later this year.
‘Sundowns is doing very well on the continent, and we must applaud their progression to the last four – that is a great achievement,’ Hlatshwayo told Safa.net.
‘More positively, however, is that the Bafana Bafana players in that squad are getting the much-needed experience, which will come in handy when we go to Egypt.
‘I believe their presence will help the national team a lot because they are now battle-hardened with all their travels around the continent, and that is crucial for a tournament like Afcon where all the big name players come to shine.’
