Anothny Laffor scored an 80th minute equaliser to send Mamelodi Sundowns through to the next round of the Caf Champions League against Kampala City.
Percy Tau, Themba Zwane and Thopela Morena started up top as Pitso Mosimane’s men look to seal their place in the next phase of the competition.
Mosimane was forced into an early change as Wayne Arendse pulled up in a physical opening quarter. Sundowns edged the first half hour with Zakri combining well with Tau but the deadlock remained.
Then the moment that changed the contest as Geoffrey Serenkuma scored for Kampala City. The goal came in the 30th minute and meant Sundowns were out on the away goals rule unless they could breach the hosts’ goalline.
Tau had another chance but he failed to get his shot on target to see Sundowns go down the tunnel 1-0 down at the break.
Mosimane then changed things up by bringing Laffor on for Anele Ngcongca in a bold but necessary move.
Zakri, Tau and Kekana had a number of half chances but the visitors failed to get the vital away goal. That changed in the 80th minute when Laffor blasted his shot into the roof of the net.
A nervy finish followed but the Brazilians held on for a 1-1 draw and a 3-2 aggregate triumph.
