Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena admits his side are “getting better” game by game despite their 2-2 draw against rivals Al Ahly in the group stages of the Caf Champions League.
The Brazilians’ failed to secure their third consecutive victory in the group stages following their draw with the Red Eagles at the Al Salam Stadium in Cairo.
Despite the stalemate, Sundowns currently sit at the top of the Group B standings with seven points after three matches, while Ahly are in third position with just one point after two matches.
Mokwena insists his side will continue to fight for the points in the group stages in order to qualify for the knockout stages of the continental competition.
“It’s group stages, I’ve maintained from day one that it’s four very good teams and one step at a time,” Mokwena told his club’s official website.
“It’s group stages first and now it’s to focus on hosting Al Ahly in Pretoria, making sure that we fight for the points because we have to fight for the points, no points will be given to us and then we will see how it goes from there.
“Step by step we grow, game by game and we look to get better.”
Sundowns will now look to bounce back and return to winning ways when they travel to the Free State Stadium to face Marumo Gallants in the Nedbank Cup on Thursday evening.
