Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane believes his side’s showings in the Caf Champions League is proof of the strength of the top flight in South Africa.

The Absa Premiership champions cruised past Angolan side Petro de Luanda at the weekend with a 3-0 win in their Caf Champions League Group C opener at Loftus Versfeld.

The result got the Brazilians off to the perfect start as they now top their group after Wydad Casablanca and USM Alger played out to a draw in their opening match.

Speaking after the game, Mosimane highlighted the difference between the match and those played in the PSL, insisting that the league in South Africa is one of the biggest in the world.

‘Don’t undermine the PSL, we played AmaZulu [midweek] and we did not have this free-flowing game,’ said Mosimane.

‘The PSL is a bit stronger, especially in terms of defensive organisations of the teams. We sweat to go through, hence there are not too many goals. PSL is stronger than the Angola league, I will agree to that. I think we are in the top three [in Africa]. The Tunisian league is strong, Morocco and Egypt is strong. You don’t want to take Algeria for granted also. If you go to DRC there’s AS Vita and TP Mazembe and they are having their own party there.’

The 2016 Caf Champions League winners are next in action when they face perennial rival Wydad in Morocco on Saturday night for their second group game.
