Pitso Mosimane celebrates with Phakamani Mahlambi during the CAF Champions League match against Al Ahly

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane hailed his side’s preparation ahead of the 5-0 thrashing of Egyptian giants Al Ahly in their Caf Champions League quarter-final first leg.

The Brazilians were in fine form on Saturday afternoon as they cruised to a 2-0 half-time lead with goals by Themba Zwane and Wayne Arendse.

They continued to shine in the second stanza as Ricardo Nascimento, Gaston Sirino and Phakamani Mahlambi got their names on the score-sheet to fire Sundowns to a famous victory over the giants of African football.

Speaking after the game Mosimane insisted that there was no luck behind the result and that it was instead down to their detailed planning and preparation.

‘We watched eight games of Al Ahly,’ Mosimane was quoted as saying by PowerFM.

‘The last two were of Pyramids and Zamalek. We got the patterns, how they play. We did our homework. It wasn’t luck. We worked for it. We knew all their danger areas, all their danger men,’ he added.

Despite the emphatic victory Mosimane also looked to show humility to his opposite number Martin Lasarte, who is thought to be facing the axe after the defeat.

‘We do not want to talk a lot. This is a big coach with a big CV. We have to show respect. If he puts his CV here and I put mine, I will have to hide mine under a table. I know that losing 5-0 is hard. Let’s show humility and respect,’ he concluded.
