Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane lamented his side’s efforts in their 2-2 draw against Horoya in a Caf Champions League Group C tie in Guinea on Tuesday night.
Goals by Khama Billiat and Gaston Sirino saw Masandawana come from a goal down to take a 2-1 lead, but poor defending in the final exchanges saw Horoya extend their unbeaten streak to 52 consecutive games at home after a bullet header from Aboubacar Camara.
The former Bafana Bafana mentor says his side were restricted in the first stanza and despite having not claimed victory in their first two group clashes, Mosimane is pleased with the result.
‘I thought it was a game of two halves. We woke up very late, we were asleep and we couldn’t play our normal football in the first half,’ he said in post-match comments.
‘But in the second half, we played the way we usually play, and we could find each other with our passing, and that is the way Sundowns plays.
‘They scored two goals, we scored two goals. They are a very good team, as I’ve said, and you saw what happened [on the pitch],’ he added.
Quizzed about his side’s failure to maintain their lead, Jingles – as the coach is known – said that he would gladly take the point against a quality Horoya outfit.
‘They scored first and we equalised, and then we went ahead and they came back, so it was fair. But I said we would try to win and we did try to win but they equalised.
‘I also said [before the game] that if we don’t win then we should at least not lose,’ he concluded.
Sundowns occupy third position in Group C, with two points from two games, while Wydad Casablanca and Horoya occupy first and second respectively with four points each.
AS Togo-Port are rooted to the bottom of the group, having not registered a single point thus far.
