Al Ahly coach Pitso Mosimane has praised his side for a much-improved performance against Raja Casablanca in the Caf Champions League quarter-final second leg at the Stade Mohamed V over the weekend.
The Red Eagles booked their place in the semi-finals after a 1-1 draw with Raja Casablanca in Morocco to win the two-legged tie 3-2 on aggregate.
Fabrice Ngoma opened the scoring in the fifth minute for Raja before Ahly’s Mohamed Abdelmonem netted a 44th-minute header to level the score before half time.
However, a draw was enough to have Ahly advance to the last four of the competition to set up a semi-final encounter with Algerian outfit ES Setif.
“It was a difficult game. We came here with respect to Raja and we gave them respect. But we have the experience and the confidence to play these games,” Mosimane told his club’s official website.
“We won the game in Cairo and we missed a penalty in Cairo and missed another penalty here.
“We know how to play the Champions League matches and we are progressively improving.”
Mosimane’s side will now turn their attention back to the Egyptian Premier League when they welcome Tala’ea El Gaish SC to the Al-Salaam Stadium in Cairo on Wednesday evening.
