Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane says he was delighted with the Brazilians’ dominant performance against Leones Vegetarianos in their Caf Champions League encounter on Wednesday.
The Brazilians sealed their place in the next round of the competition after claiming a 5-1 victory in the second leg with an 7-1 aggregate score following their two-legged fixture.
The likes of Jeremy Brockie, Themba Zwane, Hlompho Kekana, Gaston Sirino, Jose Ali Meza and Lyle Lakay all managed to get their names on the scoresheet at Loftus Stadium.
Mosimane felt his side should have scored more goals against the Equatorial Guinean outfit, despite putting five goals past them in the return leg.
‘In terms of qualifying we are happy to go through. We could have scored moren but you also need to appreciate and be grateful sometimes. What I like is that they tried to play and go forward. They were dominant on the ball. They were getting their passing lines [right] like against SuperSport United,’ Mosimane told SuperSport TV after the game.
‘It’s good we bring on other players and it remains the same. It means there is proper continuation in the team.
‘It’s not going to be easy [in the next round]. Because Al Ahly Benghazi won we’ll have to go to Cairo, now that’s a big one. We have [the] team, if we play like this, create chances like this we should be able to win. We should just try and score away.’
Mamelodi Sundowns will now face Al Ahly Benghazi in the next round after the Egyptian side defeated Nouadhibou 3-2 on aggregate.
