Al Ahly head coach Pitso Mosimane admitted his side are now in a tough spot after their 1-0 defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns in Cairo on Saturday adding that he was disappointed to lose a game after wasting so many chances.
The defending champions opened their campaign with a disappointing 0-0 draw away against Al-Hilal and were hopi ng to bounce back with three points against the Brazilians.
However, despite creating many openings the Red Devils could not find the back of the net allowing the visitors to snatch late winner through Thapelo Morena.
Pitso Mosimane’s chargers now sit in precarious position in the group as they sit I third with 1 point after two games while Sundowns top group A with seven points in three games.
Speaking after the match Mosimane admitted he was disappointed with the result after feeling his side played well.
“We wasted a lot of chances and we are sad to lose, but I can’t blame my players, they did all they could,” Mosimane said.
“We put ourselves in a tough spot. Qualifying to the next stage will not be easy.
“Congratulations to Sundowns, they won the game. But it’s disappointing to lose a game after wasting many chances.
“I believe VAR should be used in the group stage, but I am not blaming its absence. We had many goal-scoring chances and we have to learn from the defeat.
“Failing to score in two games put us under a lot of pressure but we will focus on the upcoming matches.
“We will do everything to win against Sundowns in South Africa, it’s possible.”
