Orlando Pirates are searching for their first win in the Caf Champions League group stages as they face Horoya Athletic Club on Friday night, and coach Milutin Sredojevic believes the Buccaneers are ready, writes DEAN WORKMAN.

Pirates began the group stages with a 0-0 draw in Zimbabwe against FC Platinum last weekend and will host the club from Equatorial Guinea at the Orlando Stadium, looking to take advantage of playing at home.

Sredojevic, who has spoken about his pride to be taking the Soweto giants back to Africa’s premium competition, emphasised to the media on Thursday that he believes his side are ready for what promises to  be a tough encounter.

‘In Champions League you have six matches (in the group stages), and whatever happens on the road you have to win at home,’ said Sredojevic.

‘The point (against FC Platinum) was very important, as it served as an injection of motivation ahead of this match, and I would say we are ready.

‘We are ready for whatever the football gods throw at us.’

The Serbian coach also spoke about management changes at Horoya which will see him come up against a familiar opponent in Patrice Neveu.

‘I would say that we are playing a team who have changed their coach from last year.  I played with him with the Ugandan national team (where the Serb was the coach), and this will be a different test,’ added Sredojevic, affectionately known as Micho.
