Mamelodi Sundowns thrashed Al Ahli Benghazi 4-0 in their Caf Champions League encounter at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday afternoon to book their place in the group stages of the competition.

Pitso Mosimane’s men would have been confident coming into the tie, despite their 0-0 draw in the first leg last weekend.

Sundowns started the game on the front foot and almost took the lead with 13 minutes gone when Jeremy Brockie met a Gaston Sirino cross, but his effort rattled the upright.

The Brazilians continued to control the game and again struck the woodwork in the 31st minute. This time it was Ricardo Nascimento’s header that struck the bar.

The home side finally had their opening goal ten minutes before the break as Anthony Laffor slipped Sirino through on goal and the Uruguayan made no mistake producing a clinical finish to fire his side ahead.

Sundowns then doubled their lead just before the break as a deflected Brockie strike left the Benghazi keeper with little chance.

Mosimane’s side were 2-0 up at the break with one foot in the group stages of the Caf Champions League.

Sundowns all but sealed the tie just five minutes after the restart as Sirino’s delightful ball over the top was expertly brought down by Laffor before the Liberian international smashed the ball into the back of the net.

The 2016 Caf Champions League winners were truly in command and added another to the scoreline nine minutes before time as substitute Jose Meza hit an early shot which flew into the bottom corner.

4-0 the full-time score as Mamelodi Sundowns book their spot in the group stages of the Caf Champions League for the fourth season in a row.
