Bafana Bafana captain Ronwen Williams says the experience of playing in the Caf Champions League with Mamelodi Sundowns will only help the national team against Morocco on Saturday.
South Africa are set to face Morocco in their final Africa Cup of Nations Group K qualifier which is scheduled to kick off at the FNB Stadium this weekend.
Both Bafana and Morocco have already qualified for the tournament in Ivory Coast which is set to commence from 13 January – 11 February 2024.
Williams, who will lead South Africa against Morocco, says his Sundowns teammates in the Bafana squad will play a crucial role in helping the national team succeed in the Afcon qualifier.
“Playing at that level (Champions League) and going all the way to the semi-finals gives one experience of playing high quality games against high quality opposition. These games are not easy, and they help us, especially at national team level”, Williams told Caf Online.
“The experience that you get from these tournaments is crucial and we can see it with Sundowns playing Champions League year in, year out where the experience gained comes in handy.
“Also, having a few more South African teams next season will obviously help the team going forward for such fixtures.”
