Kaizer Chiefs will undergo the expensive exercise of hiring a private flight for their trip to Madagascar to face Elgeco Plus in their Confederations Cup second leg tie in an attempt to get home in time for Christmas.
Chiefs will take a healthy advantage into the tie after a comprehensive 3-0 win over Elgeco Plus last weekend.
However, with the holidays fast approaching and with frequent flights to the island nation not available on a daily basis, the club has taken the decision to charter a flight to ensure the team does not get stuck travelling over the festive period,
Chiefs will thus make the three-hour flight on Friday‚ train at the match venue on the eve of Saturday’s game‚ play their match and then head straight home.
‘It is an expensive exercise, but we have no alternative because there are not that many flights‚’ Chiefs’ football manager, Bobby Motaung, told SowetanLIVE in an interview.
Chiefs will then give the squad time off from Monday through to Thursday to celebrate Christmas, with training set to resume on Friday 27 December.
‘We will give them two more days off over New Year‚’ Motaung explained.
The move is also undoubtedly with a focus on keeping the squad rested and happy as they look to hit the ground running when they kick off 2019 with a blockbuster clash against Mamelodi Sundowns on 5 January.
