Bidvest Wits coach Gavin Hunt explained the appalling treatment his side were forced to endure during their Caf Confederation Cup clash in Nigeria.

The Clever Boys recently returned home from Nigeria after they were eliminated from the Caf Confederation Cup by Enyimba on the away goal rule.

Hunt says he was outraged by the conditions his side had to experience during their trip to Nigeria for their continental club competition.

‘Have you understood what we’ve done in the last week or two? It was a nightmare, a disgrace. Things like that shouldn’t be in football,’ Hunt told KickOff.com.

‘It’s a joke [what happened out there], I’m not even going to get into it. You guys should come, and then you’ll know about it instead of criticising us for getting knocked out.

‘We can’t play there… Red cards again, disallowed goals, tackles are… you know, it’s crazy. The pitch, I mean, it was… Anyway, I don’t want to talk about it.’

The Wits mentor says he was forced to field players, who he was resting for their Absa Premiership fixture against Polokwane City due to fatigue and their mental state of mind.

‘Well we’re obviously leggy, and we’re heavy. Mentally, I don’t think it’s legs, it’s more mental what we’ve been through,’ he explained.

‘And because we’ve only got a few [available players], we had to take some that we didn’t want to take and we had to play one or two, and that was it.’

Bidvest Wits will next take on Orlando Pirates behind closed doors at the Orlando Stadium when the two sides lock horns in the Absa Premiership on Wednesday with kick-off set for 7:30pm.
