Horoya held SuperSport United to a 0-0 draw at the Stade du 28 Septembre in their CAF Confederation Cup group stage tie on Saturday evening, writes MARSHALL GOUTS.

The newly-crowned Nedbank Cup champions played to a 0-0 draw against TP Mazembe in their last Confederation Cup encounter and occupy second spot in the group, two points behind table toppers Horoya.

The Guinea-based outfit started the brighter of the two teams, and SuperSport had goalkeeper Ronwen Williams to thank for some fine goalkeeping to ensure that the scoreline remained level.

Horoya dominated proceedings, with Aboubacar Bangoura and Ocansey Mandela giving the defensive pairing of Morgan Gould and Clayton Daniels a torrid time, but for all their efforts they failed to get a goal.

SuperSport struggled to get ahold of the game and looked to catch the home side on the counter-attack with the pace of Aubrey Modiba and Thuso Phala. The two sides went into the half-time break deadlocked at 0-0.

Matsatsantsa emerged with more of an attacking intent in the second half and almost fell victim to a well-worked counter-attacking move in the 53rd minute, but a poor pass by captain Mandela saw the four-versus-three situation break down at the death.

A great change of pace by Mandela in the 64th minute saw him beat his markers, before firing a well-struck effort inches wide of the mark.

SuperSport introduced Jeremy Brockie for Kingston Nkatha in the 64th minute as they went in search of the opening goal.

Horoya upped their tempo in a bid to get a goal in the final exchanges of the encounter, but resolute defending by SuperSport denied them as the two sides were forced to share the spoils.
