Eric Tinkler insists that SuperSport United’s 2-1 away loss to TP Mazembe in the Caf Confederation Cup final first leg is not the worst result to come home with.
Matsatsantsa face the defending Confederation Cup champions in their all-important second leg clash at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday, and Tinkler believes that they can lift the title based on their preparations.
‘We put up a good performance in the opening 20 minutes and could have at least gotten a goal in the first half,’ Tinkler is quoted as saying by Caf.
‘However, I am not too saddened by the result. I would rather go home with a 2-1 loss than a 0-0 draw because we have a goal advantage.
‘It will not be easy at home, but a solid game plan should give us the desired result,’ he concluded.
Mazembe coach Phamphile Mihayo uttered similar sentiments to Tinkler, saying that the encounter in Tshwane will be a whole different ball game.
‘We wanted to play well and win the game because we are at home and needed to be offensive.
‘Going to Pretoria will be difficult and they will pressurise us from the onset, but we will have a plan that will give us the desired result.
‘They are a very good side which isn’t easily broken down, but we will have a good game plan,’ he concluded.
