Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro says it’s “not easy to explain” why his team suffered a defeat to Richards Bay in the quarter-finals of the Carling Knockout Cup.
The match at the Moses Mabhida Stadium ended goalless after 120 minutes forcing the game to be settled in a penalty shootout, which Bay went on to win 5-4.
As a result, Pirates have been eliminated from the competition while Bay advanced to the semi-finals of the competition.
Riveiro congratulated Richards Bay after admitting that his side did not do enough to secure the victory.
“Not easy to explain again,” Riveiro told SuperSport TV after the match.
“120 minutes on the ball trying but not scoring and going to the penalties and today we were not the lucky one.
“Congratulations to Richards Bay and trying to think about the next one as soon as possible.
“There’s not many things that you can do better.
“It’s about be a bit more confident maybe in the last metres. What we’re talking about is an old story, I don’t want to repeat myself.
“Like I said a few weeks ago, I think we’re doing a lot of things very well but so far it is not enough to win against.”
