Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge says he was delighted to help the Reds quickly put the disappointment of defeat to Burnley behind them with a win at Burton Albion on Tuesday.
The Reds secured a 5-0 victory in their first Capital One Cup match as Roberto Firmino and Divock Origi netted, while Sturridge bagged a brace, and Tom Naylor put through his own goal.
Success at the Pirelli Stadium secured a place in the competition’s third round for Jurgen Klopp’s team, as well as providing the perfect tonic after the loss at the weekend, reports the Liverpool website.
The 26-year-old says his side put in a good and improved display from what they produced during their 2-0 defeat to Burnley on Saturday.
‘It was a great team performance and it’s good to get the victory,’ Sturridge said.
‘It was down to us to get the result, down to us to go out there and improve on what we did at the weekend and we did that.’
The England striker insists that his side have to keep performing and keep scoring goals in order to win matches.
‘We’re like that all the time, we always want to try to keep scoring goals, keep performing, and keep making the results as good as possible,’ he added.
‘We want to win. We always want to win every game, regardless of the competition. It’s important if it’s a friendly or whatever, we always want to win.’
Liverpool will now return to the Premier League when they face Tottenham Hotspurs at White Hart Lane on Saturday.
Kick-off has been set for 13:30.
