Manchester City star Sergio Aguero has admitted he enjoys breaking records as he closes in on the Premier League’s top 20 all-time goalscorers.
The Argentine striker has netted a remarkable 147 goals from just 214 appearances in his City career having arrived at the club five seasons ago. 107 of those strikes have come in the Premier League, a tally which could have stood higher still if not for the forward’s persistent injury struggles.
Aguero is currently just two goals behind Manchester United icon Ryan Giggs’ tally of 109 goals, while another 20 goal haul this term would take the striker ahead of the likes of Emile Heskey, Dion Dublin, Ian Wright and Steven Gerrard by the time the curtain closes on the present season.
Despite his prolific scoring, the 28-year-old remains miles short of the tally set by the Premier League’s all-time leading scorer Alan Shearer, who bagged 260 goals in his remarkable career.
‘Records have never meant much to me if I’m honest. It’s nice to break them, I admit, but they aren’t a big priority to me,’ he told the club’s website.
‘Having said that, it still makes me proud to stand where I am in the club’s all-time list. If I can keep racking up goals, I hope they come for the benefit of the team and football club,’ he added.
Aguero’s next chance to score will come when City welcome Everton to the Etihad on Saturday.
The action gets underway at 16:00.
