Manchester United winger Antony has been allowed a leave of absence in order to address the allegations of domestic abuse against the Brazilian international.
On Monday, the Brazil squad decided to remove the 23-year-old individual from their team due to allegations raised by his former partner, Gabriela Cavallin. The individual in question has denied these accusations.
United said in a statement: “Manchester United acknowledges the allegations made against Antony.
“Players who have not participated in international matches are due back in training on Monday. However, it has been agreed with Antony that he will delay his return until further notice in order to address the allegations.
“As a club we condemn acts of violence and abuse. We recognise the importance of safeguarding all those involved in this situation, and acknowledge the impact these allegations have on survivors of abuse.”
Antony posted a statement on Instagram on Monday saying he was the “victim of false accusations”.
The denial was issued subsequent to the dissemination of WhatsApp messages by the Brazilian press, purportedly exchanged between Antony and Cavallin, wherein the player is alleged to have made threats towards his former partner.
In one photograph, Cavallin is depicted with a conspicuous injury to the head.
The former Ajax player said his relationship with Cavallin was “tumultuous, with verbal abuse on both sides”.
However he denied assaulting her, adding: “I never practiced physical aggression.”
Manchester United is currently facing significant pressure to take action in response to the recent development, which closely follows the club’s decision to terminate its association with Mason Greenwood.
The striker, who was 21 years old at the time, was accused of multiple charges, including attempted rape and assault. However, in February of this year, the prosecution declared that the case had been dismissed due to the withdrawal of crucial witnesses and the emergence of new evidence.
The public expressed strong disapproval in response to reports indicating that United intended to keep the player after conducting an internal investigation lasting six months. Consequently, the club announced in August that the player would seek to revive his professional career elsewhere.
Subsequently, Greenwood has entered into a loan agreement with Getafe, a Spanish football club.
Antony’s acquisition by United occurred slightly over a year ago, following a transfer agreement with Ajax valued at £85 million ($107 million).
The individual in question has accumulated a total of 48 appearances for the football club known as the Red Devils, during which he has successfully scored eight goals. Furthermore, he had the privilege of being a member of the team that emerged victorious in the English League Cup earlier this calendar year.
