Arsenal looks set to sign German forward Kai Havertz from Chelsea after reportedly agreeing a £65 million ($82 million) fee for the German.
Arsenal, Arsenal’s London rival, accepted the lucrative offer, so Havertz can now talk contract terms with Arsenal and get a medical.
The 24-year-old has become a top priority for the Gunners as they look to strengthen a team that finished second in the Premier League last season.
Havertz is expected to become Arsenal’s first offseason signing after three erratic seasons with the Blues.
Havertz’s contract expires in 2025, and it is widely believed that Chelsea’s owners would prefer not to let any of their players enter the final two years of their contracts.
N’Golo Kante has agreed to join Saudi Arabian side Al-Ittihad, and Mateo Kovacic left Chelsea on Wednesday to join treble winners Manchester City.
Havertz, who moved to Chelsea from Bayer Leverkusen in 2020, has tallied 19 goals in 91 games played in the Premier League.
Havertz scored the game-winning goal in Chelsea’s 2021 Champions League final victory over Manchester City, cementing his place in club history and the hearts of Blues fans despite his inconsistent finishing and lacklustre play.
Havertz’s time in west London was most memorable for that.
Havertz hopes that his upcoming move across the capital will provide a more stable environment to flourish in after his disappointing performance for Chelsea over the past year (9 goals in 47 games).
Mikel Arteta, manager of Arsenal, has shown that he has faith in Havertz as a regular starter by offering a hefty transfer fee for the forward.
