Manchester United’s 4-0 defeat to Chelsea was made worse through a bad injury suffered by Ivory Coast defender Eric Bailly at Stamford Bridge.
The strong tackling defender hobbled off the pitch in some discomfort in the 52nd minute, with Marcos Rojo replacing him.
‘He is injured and I am afraid he is badly injured,’ Mourinho told reporters at the post-match press conference. ‘In his knee, in the ligament area. He feels it is really bad.’
Bailly’s injury is not the only concern for Mourinho ahead of Wednesday’s home EFL Cup tie against Manchester City. Marouane Fellaini picked up a knock after a studs-up challenge from David Luiz just before half-time.
Captain Wayne Rooney did not make the trip to London as he suffered a strain during training, after suspecting a problem during the Europa League win over Fenerbahce.
