Liverpool midfielder Emre Can has described his acrobatically match-winner against Watford as ‘the best goal I’ve ever scored’.

The German midfielder scored the only goal of the match when he acrobatically volleyed the ball into the top corner after latching on to a lofted ball by Lucas Leiva.

The 23-year-old admits that it was ‘best goal’ he has ever scored, but he remained humble and insisted that he was delighted that the Reds secured all three points.

‘I didn’t think too much, to be honest. The ball came, a great ball from Lucas, and I just did it and I was happy the ball went in,’ Can told the Liverpool website.

‘I couldn’t do anything else there because the ball was a little bit behind and I couldn’t head it. I didn’t think too much and then I scored and I think I will never score [a goal like that] again.

‘It was a special goal but I’m very happy that we got the three points, it was the most important [thing]. It was the best goal I’ve ever scored. It was an unbelievable goal.’

Jurgen Klopp’s side have now opened up a gap on their chasing rivals Manchester City by three points and currently sits third in the Premier League standing with 69 points.

Can continue to say that the Reds aim for this season is to qualify for next season’s Champions League, but insists that they still have a lot to do to secure their spot, with three games still remaining.

‘It was a very, very big step and I think if we perform in the last three games how we can perform then we will win games and we will play in the Champions League,’ he added.

‘Our target is to play in the Champions League because with the quality of players that we have here and with a club like Liverpool, your target has to be to play in the Champions League. We will give our best.

‘But we still have three games and they will be very difficult, but I think we have to go with confidence into the games and the good thing is that we have it in our hands.’

Liverpool will next welcome Southampton to Anfield when the two sides lock horns in the Premier League on Sunday.

Kick-off has been scheduled for 14:30.
