Chelsea have confirmed that defender Ben Chilwell has signed a new two-year contract extension which will keep him at Stamford Bridge until 2027.
Over the last two seasons, Chilwell has been hurt a lot, but Chelsea still wanted to keep him at Stamford Bridge.
The left back, who was 26 and came to Chelsea from Leicester in 2020, was on the team that won the Champions League in 2021.
Chilwell’s 2021-22 season was ruined when his cruciate knee ligament tore. He has also missed three months of this season, including the World Cup, because of a hamstring injury.
It was said that Manchester City was interested in making a bid for Chilwell at the end of the season.
But the day before Chelsea’s Champions League quarter-final first leg at Real Madrid on Wednesday, Chilwell, who has played 80 times for the Blues, agreed to add two more years to a contract that was set to end in 2025.
“I feel very settled at Chelsea and have really enjoyed my time on the pitch here so I’m very pleased the club want me to be part of the project long-term, and am very happy to sign this extension to my contract,” he said.
“We are working hard for success and I will do my best to bring more smiles to the faces of the fans who have made me feel so welcome.”
Two more years for @BenChilwell! 😁
