Erik ten Hag is set to remain as manager of Manchester United following a post-season review by the club’s board.
Ten Hag is reportedly in talks with them right now to extend his contract, which is set to finish after this season.
Soon after the FA Cup final, United started their review.
Ten Hag entered the Wembley match against Manchester City with rumours that he would be fired regardless of the result.
Rather, United’s well-earned 2-1 triumph enabled the club’s leadership to take a more optimistic stance towards the review.
It is understood that discussions on the review’s conclusion have led to what are being called “constructive conversations” with Ten Hag.
After weighing every possibility, it became evident that the 54-year-old Dutchman should continue to be in command.
Ten Hag is well-known to be happy with the result, despite rumours that he was growing impatient with United’s slow pace of progress.
Two weeks, in United’s opinion, is not an inordinate amount of time to evaluate the first season following a change in ownership.
Though he is no longer in the race, former Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel is rumoured to have spoken with Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the new co-owner of United, last week. Meanwhile, the club’s interest in Mauricio Pochettino, who was available following his departure from Chelsea, cooled.
The position has also been connected to England manager Gareth Southgate, former Brighton and Chelsea manager Graham Potter, Brentford manager Thomas Frank, and former Brighton boss Roberto de Zerbi.
Southgate’s England duties prevented him from being appointed this summer, and Brentford was never contacted about Frank.
Ten Hag has been vacationing in Ibiza with his family.
