Manchester City midfielder Fernandinho believes his side should have walked away with maximum points following their 2-2 draw with Arsenal on Sunday.
The Citizens led the match twice at the Emirates Stadium, through Leroy Sane and Sergio Aguero, but were forced to settle for a draw when Theo Walcott and Shkodran Mustafi scored.
The 31-year-old insists that his side came to the Emirates Stadium with the intent of collecting all three points, but were unlucky to have conceded two second half goals, forcing them to share the spoils with the Gunners.
‘From the beginning, we showed we came here to win the game and tried to do that on the pitch,’ Fernandinho told the Manchester City website.
‘Unfortunately, we conceded the goal in the second half and it finished in a draw. We tried to push on and make some high pressing, but they didn’t play and they started to play long balls.
‘We lost some second balls and I think that makes it difficult for us. We defended more than usual at the back in front of our box. That was the reason they hit back.’
Pep Guardiola’s side are currently placed fourth on the league standings with 58 points, having won 17 out of 29 matches played so far this season and now trail leaders Chelsea by 11 points.
The Brazilian midfielder believes the Premier League title race is still open and with a win over the Blues on Wednesday, it will put them one step closer to securing the title.
‘The Premier League is still open. We have a tough game against Chelsea away,’ he added.
‘To be close to them, we have to win that game and we will see what will happen at the end of the season.’
Manchester City will be looking to close the gap on Premier League leaders Chelsea when the two sides meet on Wednesday.
The match at the Stamford Bridge kicks off at 20:45.
