Phil Foden is set to miss Manchester City’s upcoming Premier League encounter against Liverpool following an operation to remove his appendix.
The 22-year-old was ruled out of Sunday’s Euro 2024 qualifying match between England and Ukraine shortly before kickoff at Wembley.
Foden underwent surgery in London, and it is currently unknown how long he will be sidelined.
Next Saturday’s match against Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium will be missed.
“Phil will now return to Manchester to begin rehabilitation,” said a City statement.
“He will not be fit for this weekend’s Premier League game at home to Liverpool and it is unclear at this stage how long he will be unavailable for.”
City is currently eight points behind Premier League leaders Arsenal, with a game in hand.
Next month, they have five league matches, including a home match against Arsenal on April 26.
On April 11, City will play Bayern Munich in the first leg of their Champions League quarterfinal, and on April 22, they will face Sheffield United in the FA Cup semi-finals.
