Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has confirmed that Tim Fosu-Mensah will miss their upcoming clash against Swansea City through injury.
The 19-year-old came on as a substitute to replace Henrikh Mkhitaryan in the 86th minute, moments after Marouane Fellaini received his marching orders following a clash with Sergio Aguero.
The Belgian midfielder will now serve his suspension and is unavailable for their upcoming Premier League encounter against the Swans over the weekend.
The young Dutch defender replaced Armenian attacker Henrikh Mkhitaryan in the 86th minute, just after Fellaini was sent off, as Mourinho looked to secure a point with one less player on the pitch.
The Portuguse manager revealed that the young Dutch defender injured himself during the last knockings of the match, but is yet to find out the extent of his injury.
‘Tim Fosu-Mensah is injured,’ Mourinho told the Manchester United website.
‘He’s really injured in the last action of the game, in the last tackle he was on the floor, and it’s also an important injury.’
Meanwhile, United playmaker Juan Mata revealed that his recovery is going well and expects to make his United return once he is fully fit.
‘I’m feeling much better now and I hope to be back with the team soon, to try to help in the last spell of the season,’ Mata said.
Fosu-Mensah has now joined Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Marcos Rojo on the injury list after the pair suffered significant knee injuries in their previous match against Anderlecht in the Europa League.
Manchester United will now welcome struggling side Swansea City in the Premier League when the two sides meet on Sunday.
The match at Old Trafford kicks off at 13:00.
