Liverpool fell to a 2-0 defeat against Hull City while Everton clinched a 6-3 victory over Bournemouth in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
The Reds enjoyed most of the possession of the ball in the opening exchanges of the match but they struggled to carve out clear-cut opportunities in the opening 20 minutes.
However, the Tigers broke the deadlock just before the halftime interval when Alfred N’doye put the ball into the back of the net from close range following an error from Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet.
In the second half, Liverpool pressed forward in search of an equalising goal and came close to scoring in the 60 minute but Phillipe Coutinho saw his volleyed effort guided wide of the upright from close range.
However, Hull eventually doubled their lead in the 83rd minute when Oumar Niasse raced through on goal before slotting the ball under Mignolet as the match ended 2-0.
Meanwhile, Everton claimed a 6-3 victory over Bournemouth in a nine-goal thriller at Goodison Park following a hattrick by Romelu Lukaku and goals by James McCarthy and Ross Barkley, while Joshua King and Harry Arter.
While Sunderland cruised to a comfortable 4-0 victory over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park through goals by Lamine Kone, Ndong and Jermaine Defoe.
West Ham United secured a 3-1 victory over Southampton at St Mary’s Stadium, while Watford claimed a 2-1 victory overBurnley at Vicarage Road Stadium.
West Bromwich Albion secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Stoke City at the Hawthorns courtesy of an early goal by James Morrison.
