Zlatan Ibrahimovic is expected to be out of action for nine months, after tearing his ACL against Anderlecht in Manchester United’s Europa League quarter-final clash on Thursday.
United confirmed that Ibrahimovic won’t feature again in this campaign, after injuring his knee when he landed awkwardly, challenging for a header at the end of the 90 minutes in the match against Anderlecht.
The 35-year-old was forced off the field and had to be replaced by Anthony Martial as United went on to beat the Belgian side in extra-time, and advance to the semi-finals of the competition.
Jose Mourinho has been dealt a major blow and is set to lose his top-scorer for the rest of the United campaign, as they continue to fight for a Champions League spot for next season.
The injury has placed doubt over his future at the club, with his contract due to expire at the end of this season.
Ibrahimovic has recently been linked with a move to MLS clubs, including LA Galaxy and LA FC, but his imminent stint on the sidelines has cast uncertainty over a move to the United States.
