Manchester City have confirmed that Brazilian forward Gabriel Jesus has suffered a fractured metatarsal during their 2-0 victory over Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium on Monday.
The 19-year-old had to be substituted during the opening 15 minutes of their Premier League clash against the Cherries and was replaced by Argentine striker Sergio Aguero.
The Citizens are unsure how long the player will be sidelined, but it could mean him being out of action for up to three months.
The Brazilian forward has now been assessed by the club’s medical staff, and he will undergo further examinations in the coming days to establish the extent of his layoff.
Jesus has scored three goals in five appearances for City since making a move from Brazilian Serie A side Palmeiras during the January transfer window.
Since making the move to Pep Guardiola’s side, Jesus has received widespread praise for the way he has adapted to life in the Premier League.
‘We wish Gabriel a speedy recovery and we will keep you updated on his progress via the club’s official channels in the coming days,’ according to the Manchester City website.
The Argentina international is now likely to continue leading the line, although City are not in Premier League action again until March 5.
Over the course of his career, Jesus has netted 24 times and has assisted a further eight from 52 appearances in all competitions playing for the likes of Palmeiras and Manchester City.
Meanwhile, on an international level, the former Palmeiras forward has scored five goals in six appearances in all competitions for the Brazil national team since making his debut in September 2016 under the guidance of Tite.
Manchester City will now turn their attention to the FA Cup when they take on Huddersfield Town at the John Smith’s Stadium on Saturday.
Kick-off has been set for 17:00.
