Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that forward Sadio Mane is unlikely to be fit for their clash against Bournemouth on Wednesday.
The Senegalese forward recently picked up an injury during their 3-1 Merseyside derby victory over Everton in the Premier League on Saturday.
Mane, who opened the scoring early at Anfield with a brilliant individual effort, was forced off 12 minutes into the second half after a collision with Leighton Baines.
The German manager says he is doubtful of Mane’s availability for the clash against the Cherries, but remains hopeful that he’ll be fit in time for the clash.
‘We played a really good game. Nearly everything was perfect, we win it, the performance was good [but] then we lose Sadio Mane. When I saw him in the dressing room, it didn’t look like he’ll be ready for Wednesday,’ Klopp told the Liverpool website.
‘We will see, hopefully, it’s not that serious, but of course it’s not nothing and that makes our life not easier, I would say.’
The 49-year-old manager says he remains unclear as to whether or not the striker sustained a knock or a muscle strain, but states that he has already been treated by the club’s medical team and remains unclear about his availability.
‘I don’t know exactly, I don’t want to speculate now,’ he added.
‘Obviously, he has pain and it didn’t look like it’s only a knock or a muscle or something, but we have to wait.
‘When I came in I was looking for him immediately and I saw him on the bed. He’d already had treatment, and it didn’t look like he felt really comfortable.’
Liverpool will now turn their focus to their upcoming Premier League clash against Bournemouth on Wednesday.
The match at Anfield kicks off at 21:00.
