Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed that he will spend during the next transfer window to bolster his squad following their disappointing for this season.
Klopp’s squad came close to an unprecedented quadruple last season, winning the FA Cup and League Cup before losing to Manchester City in the Premier League and to Real Madrid in the Champions League final by a score of 1-0.
However, Liverpool’s hopes of winning a trophy this season have already been dashed.
They were eliminated early in domestic cup competition and in the last 16 of the Champions League. On Saturday, they will travel to Manchester City, 27 points behind leaders Arsenal and in sixth place.
Klopp’s side can only salvage a top-four finish at this point. Still, he believes criticism of the club’s medical and physical preparation is misplaced despite the role key player injuries have played in a difficult season.
“(This season is) an anomaly but I would prefer we were still in the Champions League spot,” said Klopp on Friday.
“It doesn’t change overnight, you don’t lose all our brains and fitness and medical (department).
“Things happen and then you have to react, but when you are a little bit unlucky in this direction then it’s really difficult and the league is running away at that moment.
“That is where we were. The football part, we didn’t deal well enough with setbacks through the season.”
The focus has already shifted to how Liverpool will strengthen in the summer, with Jude Bellingham of Borussia Dortmund reportedly their top target.
Klopp stated that he had positive discussions with players during the international break, but he refused to specify how much he will need to spend to return to the hunt for trophies.
“We will spend in the summer, that’s what I can say definitely,” he added.
“For who and how many and stuff like this, there is nothing to say about, really.”
