Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp cut a frustrated figure after witnessing his side drop two points against Sunderland on Monday.

Two Jermaine Defoe penalties saw the relegation-threatened Black Cats dent Liverpool’s title chances with the Reds forced to settle for just a point at the Stadium of Light.

The draw left Klopp in a sour mood especially after a controversial decision by referee Anthony Taylor, who awarded a free kick which led to  Sadio Mane giving away the second penalty.

‘Sorry about my mood,’ Klopp said after the match.

‘It is hard to accept. If you see it again, there was no contact,’ the former Dortmund boss said. ‘I saw it in the game and the fourth official saw it.

‘It’s not the worst mistake in the world and I don’t want to say it is, but it’s hard.’

The result left Liverpool second, five points behind leaders Chelsea.

Like Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, Klopp was left bemused by the festive fixture list which saw his side play three times in a week but stopped short of criticising his side’s fixtures.

‘I am the wrong person to ask. I have absolutely no influence on the fixtures. It is like it is and somebody decided like this, so there is nothing to say about this.’
