Adam Lallana lifted Liverpool to a much-needed win as he scored a brace and assisted Divock Origi during his side’s 3-0 win over Middlesbrough.
Heading into the encounter on the back of two poor showings, Lallana was in inspired form as he opened the scoring, helped Origi to his fifth goal in as many matches before completing his brace.
With pundits running out of superlatives for the England international, Jurgen Klopp was pleased his individual display at the Riverside Stadium.
‘In my opinion, we have the best English players – all of them,’ responded Klopp when asked if Lallana is the best English player in the league at the moment.
‘I am fine with them, but I am not long enough here and didn’t see too much about the other teams.
‘It’s not too simple in England to watch football; it was easier in Germany to watch English football than here. But all good, we are happy when he is fit and can perform like this.’
The win lifted Klopp’s Liverpool to second on the table albeit six points off the pace set by Chelsea.
‘We could have finished more often; I don’t think we should have scored more often,’ Klopp said after the match.
‘3-0 is the result, a deserved result I would say, but we could have finished more often. It was a really good performance. I’m happy.’
The Reds now turn their attention to Monday’s Merseyside derby as they prepare to travel to Goodison Park to face Everton, who also enter the encounter on the back of a win following Tuesday’s 2-1 victory over Arsenal.
