TFG Soccerclub selects the Premier League Team of the Week as Fernando Llorente and Andy Carroll grabbed braces in another bumper weekend of action.
This week’s formation: 4-4-2
Goalkeeper: Thibaut Courtois (Chelsea)
The Chelsea number one put in a top quality display and took home yet another clean sheet. The Belgian shot-stopper was tested with a number long-range strikes which he saved superbly. The keeper did his job whenever needed to, keeping out Hull City and help his team to a 2-0 victory.
Right back: Seamus Coleman (Everton)
The attack-minded defender was in superb form as he helped Everton maintain their good run with a late winner against Crystal Palace. The Irishman was as lively as ever as his work rate in defence and in attack not only helped the Toffees to keep a clean sheet but earned them a victory with a clinical finish from close range.
Centre back: Gary Cahill (Chelsea)
The England international put in a stand-out performance to help Chelsea to victory on the weekend when many of their title rivals failed to pick up three points. The centre back was rock solid in defence and he managed to rifle home a header late on to seal the 2-0 victory.
Centre back: Gareth McAuley (West Brom)
Gareth McAuley has been a stand-out performer for West Brom not only in defence but chipping in with goals and assists. The defender continued his fine form by assisting the opener and shutting out the Sunderland attack in the 2-0 victory.
Left back: Chris Brunt (West Brom)
Just as his teammate McAuley, Chris Brunt has been an important part of the West Brom team. The utility man scored a rocket of a goal with a thunderous strike from outside of the box. Brunt’s tireless work down the left flank helped his team to a clean sheet and an important 3 points.
Right Wing: Roberto Firmino (Liverpool)
The playmaker was the star performer for Liverpool this weekend despite his team slumping to a defeat. The Brazilian scored both of Liverpool’s goals, the first one was with a powerful header and the second was a fantastic goal, as he brought it down on his chest before he volleyed the ball home. Unfortunately for Liverpool and Firmino, his performance came in a losing cause.
Centre midfield: Darren Fletcher (West Brom)
Fletcher put in a quality display for his side as the former Manchester United man ran the game for West Brom from the middle of the park and scored the opener for his team with a fantastic volley on the turn.
Attacking midfield: Kevin de Bruyne (Manchester City)
De Bruyne starred for Manchester City this past weekend. The Belgium international played a role in both of City’s goals, firstly playing in Leroy Sane for the opener and then reacting quickly to a Hugo Lloris blunder to put his team 2-0 up. City couldn’t hold onto their lead but the midfielder seems to be regaining his best form.
Left Wing: Manuel Lanzini (West Ham)
Lanzini put in a fine performance for West Ham. The Argentine provided the assist for Andy Carroll’s opener with a quality delivery from a corner. The winger who was relentless the whole game, then helped wrap up the game by providing an assist late on to make the score 3-1.
Striker: Fernando Llorente (Swansea)
Llorente was the star man for Swansea in their surprising 3-2 win over Liverpool. The Spaniard opened the scoring for the Swans just after half time with a clinical finish and then put them 2-0 up minutes later with a powerful header. The performance and victory were much needed for Swansea in their pursuit to avoid relegation.
Striker: Andy Carroll (West Ham United)
The lanky striker regained his scoring form over the last few weeks as he put on another quality display this weekend. The former Newcastle star opened the scoring with a towering header from a corner and then scored his second by reacting quickly to a rebounded shot to finish calmly. Carroll’s two goals were vital in helping West Ham to a 3-1 victory on the road.
