Manchester City have confirmed Spain midfielder Rodri suffered a knee ligament injury during the Premier League clash against Arsenal on Sunday.

The midfielder has been examining specialists in Spain this week after limping out in the first half of Sunday’s meeting at the Etihad Stadium.

“Manchester City FC can confirm that Rodri has suffered a ligament injury to his right knee,” City said in a statement.

“The injury was sustained during the first half of this weekend’s 2-2 draw with Arsenal in the Premier League.

“The midfielder travelled to Spain to seek specialist consultation this week, following initial tests in Manchester.

“Assessment remains ongoing to ascertain the full extent of the injury and expected prognosis.

“Everyone at the Club wishes him a speedy recovery and mancity.com will bring you regular updates regarding his rehabilitation.”

Spain midfielder, 28, may miss the rest of the season, according to reports this week.

Rodri’s loss would hurt City’s chances of earning a fifth Premier League title and recovering the Champions League.

Manager Pep Guardiola claimed he had to cope without the midfielder.

“Rodri is irreplaceable,” Guardiola said after City’s 2-1 win over Watford in the League Cup on Tuesday.

“When a team doesn’t play with the best midfielder in the world for a long, long time of course it is a big blow but my duty is to find a solution so that we remain competitive as we have been for many years.

“When one player is irreplaceable you have to do it as a team and this is going to happen.”

Rodri has been tipped for the Ballon d’Or after helping City win the Premier League and Spain win Euro 2024.
