Marcus Rashford scored the only goal of the game as Manchester United ran out 1-0 victors against Watford in a Premier League encounter at Old Trafford.
The encounter had a final-game-of-the-season feel to it, with United fielding a number of non-regulars.
Veteran midfielder Michael Carrick donned the captain’s armband in his final game and showed no signs of ageing, as he pulled the strings in the midfield alongside Scott McTominay and Juan Mata.
Watford showed signs of troubling the home side throughout the first-half, but found the going tough, with defender Eric Bailly and goalkeeper Sergio Romero in excellent form.
United drew first blood in the 34th minute when Carrick’s through ball over-the-top found Mata who unselfishly played in Marcus Rashford for the easiest of tap-ins.
Romero pulled off a stunning save to deny Richarlison before the break. The Argentine shot-stopper made another save from the resultant corner to deny Gerard Deulofeu.
The flow of the clash in the second-half continued in the same vein, with United dominating possession stakes and Watford being given the odd sniff at goal.
There were a number of changes for both sides with Luke Shaw replacing Ashley Young, while Troy Deeney came on for Deulofeu.
In a bid to score the equaliser, Watford went all-out as Nathaniel Chalobah replaced Andre Gray. Jose Mourinho, in turn, shored up his midfied as Ander Herrera was thrown on in place of Daley Blind.
Watford threw numbers forward, but were unable to breach United’s defence as the home side ran out 1-0 victors.
