Manchester United have completed the signing of Turkey goalkeeper Altay Bayindir from Fenerbahce for £4.3m.

Bayindir has entered into a contractual agreement with the Premier League club for a duration of four years, with the club retaining the option to extend the contract for an additional 12 months.

The individual, aged 25, has been appointed as a substitute for Manchester United’s primary custodian Andre Onana, subsequent to Dean Henderson’s recent transfer to Crystal Palace.

Upon Bayindir’s inaugural appearance for Manchester United, he will achieve the distinction of being the initial Turkish player to represent the esteemed Old Trafford club.

“It is a huge honour to join Manchester United and become the first Turkish player to represent this incredible club,” Bayindir said.

“I have a passion for success, and I will give everything to help this special group of players to achieve our ambitions.

“I cannot wait to start working with such an experienced goalkeeping unit. We will support each other and drive high standards every day so that each of us is ready to perform whenever called upon.”

Bayindir has accumulated a total of 166 appearances throughout his professional career, during which he has successfully maintained a clean sheet on 53 occasions.

In 2019, the individual in question transitioned from Ankaragucu to Fenerbahce, assuming a prominent role within the team during the preceding season. Notably, Fenerbahce achieved victory in the Turkish Cup and secured a second-place finish in the Super Lig.

“Altay is an excellent addition to our squad and adds further quality to our already strong group of experienced goalkeepers,” Manchester United Football Director John Murtough said.

“Having consistently performed at a high level in a strong European league, he has the qualities to support us in achieving our ambitions across all competitions this season and beyond.”

The acquisition of Bayindir marks the culmination of a period of significant transformation within the goalkeeping division of the United team during the offseason.

David de Gea, a football player who accumulated a total of 545 appearances during his 12-year tenure with Manchester United, departed from the club due to the inability to reach a consensus on a renewed contractual agreement.

Onana was acquired from Inter Milan for a transfer fee of £47.2 million, thereby establishing a professional alliance with Erik ten Hag, the manager of Manchester United, who had previously served as Onana’s coach during his tenure at Ajax.
