Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has confirmed that Paul Pogba is set to miss their crucial Manchester derby against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Thursday.
The Red Devils are currently placed fifth in the Premier League standings with 63 points, having won 17 of their 32 matches played so far this side, with a point separating them from fourth-placed City.
The Portuguese manager confirmed that Antonio Valencia is fit and available for Thursday’s derby showdown with Manchester City.
‘We go with what we have and we fight with what we have,’ Mourinho told the Manchester United website.
‘I trust the boys and we go with everything we have until the last second of the season, we hope. We are fighters, the boys are fighters, and we go.’
Meanwhile, Mourinho has revealed that Ander Herrera will be available for selection, while Pogba will be sidelined for their crucial match at the Etihad Stadium.
‘Paul, no. Herrera, yes,’ he revealed.
With a victory, United could go above City on the table for the first time since August, but Mourinho says he is only concerned with finishing in the top four, and not in the rivalry with their cross-town rivals.
‘It means nothing. If we finish fifth and they finish sixth, it means nothing. If they finish third and we finish fourth, they are above us, but it means a lot.’
‘This is not about Pep [Guardiola], this is not about City, this is about objectives and we want to try to play Champions League football. We still have two doors open,’ Mourinho concluded.
The United boss will also be without Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Marcos Rojo, Juan Mata, Chris Smalling and Phil Jones through injury.
Manchester United will now travel to the Etihad Stadium when they take on rivals Manchester City in the Premier League on Thursday.
Kick-off has been set for 21:00.
