Mykhailo Mudryk finally bagged his first goal for Chelsea as the Blues secured a thrilling 4-3 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion in a friendly match in Philadelphia.
In the 13th minute, Brighton went ahead when Kaoru Mitoma headed the ball across the box after a short corner routine. Danny Welbeck then shot the ball into the goal with his first shot.
The French forward Nkunku, who was just bought from RB Leipzig for reportedly £63 million ($80 million), tied the game for the London club in the 19th minute with his second pre-season goal.
In the 59th minute, Brighton was down to ten players after Dutch full-back Jan Paul van Hecke got a second yellow card for a dangerous tackle on Cesare Casadei.
Five minutes later, Chelsea went ahead when Ukrainian Mudryk came in from the left side and, after a smart exchange with Jackson, fired a shot from outside the box into the bottom corner.
It was Mudryk’s first goal for Chelsea. He joined the team in January in a huge deal that was said to cost up to 100 million euros (£88 million, $108 million).
Jackson, who is from Senegal, then set up Conor Gallagher to make it 3-1, and he scored the fourth goal for Mauricio Pochettino’s team himself.
Joao Pedro’s penalty in the 79th minute gave Brighton some hope, but even though Deniz Undav scored a late goal for Albion, Chelsea still won.
On Wednesday, Chelsea will play against Newcastle United in Atlanta as part of the Premier League Summer Series.
