PUMA has launched a commemorative capsule collection to celebrate Manchester City’s 125th anniversary.

To celebrate Manchester City’s 125th anniversary, PUMA on Thursday launched a commemorative capsule collection inspired by the club’s history, with an anniversary jersey at the centre of the collection including specific design elements voted for by fans.

The collection is inspired by Manchester City’s founding document, signed by Joshua Parlby in April 1894, who as a committee member and later the secretary-manager of Ardwick AFC (previously known as St Marks) played an instrumental role to establish and incorporate Manchester City Football Club – a club with the community at its heart. The launch comes ahead of the 125th anniversary of the first game that City played, against Bury on 1 September 1894.

In a series of portraits, PUMA captured current and former players to recognise and celebrate all representative teams at the club, including club greats Mike Summerbee and Shaun Goater, first-team players David Silva and Gemma Bonner and academy prospects Jeremie Frimpong, Joel Latibeaudiere and Jess Park. Also included were Lynn Radcliffe and her guide dog Simba and Cameron Walker from the club’s BTEC programme, representatives from the club’s community programme, City in the Community, which uses the power of football to enhance the lives of young people in Manchester.

Anniversary Jersey

Worn by the men’s first team in their 2019 Community Shield win at Wembley, the Manchester City 125th anniversary jersey was designed in collaboration with the club’s fans. Supporters voted on the club’s Cityzens membership portal for their preferred crest, positioning and tone, in addition to a club symbol and commemorative text.

The resulting light-blue kit with white trim is strongly influenced by the club’s kit from the early 1970s and is enhanced with anniversary elements including the club’s founding document replicated in the inside neckline and gold embroidery denoting the club’s 125th year. The shirt is free of shirt sponsorship, which was made possible for the club’s special anniversary by the support of Etihad Airways, the club’s principal partner, and Nexen Tire, sleeve partner.

Anniversary ROMA

Celebrating off-pitch terrace style and using a 1960s archive silhouette, PUMA has released a special design of the ROMA lightweight training shoe. The PUMA ROMA X MAN CITY is a rendition of the classic style featuring a fresh, retro-inspired look in light-grey suede with black layers on the toebox and heel, its black smooth Formstrip with light-blue piping and a stacked sole in white with black and light blue, complemented by extra lace loops in light blue and the club badge on the tongue label.

Anniversary Off-field Collection

The product range is extended to a capsule collection of off-field leisure wear including a fan tee, PUMA T7 track jacket, plus cap, ball and scarf accessories. Products are embellished with 125th commemorative text inspired by the club’s original Certificate of Incorporation, registered on 16 April 1894.

The Manchester City 125th anniversary shirt droped in-store on Thursday and is available for men (R999) and kids (R899) at PUMA stores, Totalsports, and selected retailers. The T7 track jacket, retailing for R1,699, is available at PUMA stores and Totalsports.
