South African football icon and Leeds United great Lucas Radebe is ‘absolutely proud’ after his former club returned to the Premier League after a 16-year absence.
The former Bafana Bafana captain played for Kaizer Chiefs between 1989 and 1994 before securing a move to Leeds, where he made 235 appearances in all competitions during his 12-year stay at Elland Road.
Radebe had great success with the club, captaining them in the 1990s to mid-2000s while also guiding them to the Champions League semi-final during the 2000-01 season.
The Soweto-born icon expressed his excitement after Leeds gained promotion back to the Premier League as a result of West Bromwich Albion suffered a 2-1 defeat by Huddersfield Town.
Radebe tweeted: ‘After long 16yrs finally the wait is over‚ our dreams have come true‚ back in the premier league‚ come on @LUFC. Congratulations to ElLoco [coach Marcelo Bielsa] and the Boys‚ absolutely proud.’
