Liverpool legend Ian Rush believes a win over Everton will boost their ambitions to qualify for the Champions League next season.
The Reds welcome the Toffees to Anfield on Saturday, knowing that a win would strengthen their chance of a place in the Premier League’s top four.
The Welshman has a goal tally of 25 in 36 Liverpool appearances against the the Toffees, which is a record for this fixture.
The 55-year-old insists that the Reds are in for a tough Merseyside derby but he is confident that Jurgen Klopp’s side can overcome their rivals.
‘I’m sure the Liverpool players, when they play Everton, will go out there and want to play really well. They’re doing really well at the moment, some of them have had this break [in Tenerife], so they’ll come back fresh,’ Rush told the Liverpool website.
‘It’s going to be one hell of a game against Everton, because they’re doing alright at the moment as well, but I think with the crowd behind them, hopefully, Liverpool can get the win.
‘The top four is still the main priority, and I think if they can get a win against Everton, it’s on to finish in the top four.’
Liverpool will play Everton in what is expected to be an entertaining clash in the Premier League on Saturday.
The match at Anfield kicks off at 13:30.
