Leicester City interim manager Craig Shakespeare believes the Foxes showed unity and togetherness as they ran out 3-1 winners over Liverpool at King Power Stadium on Monday.

England striker Jamie Vardy opened the scoring before Danny Drinkwater doubled that advantage with a half-volley from range shortly afterwards.

Vardy then added his side’s third on the hour mark before Philippe Coutinho scored a consolation goal for the Reds eight minutes later as the Foxes walked away with all three points.

Shakespeare says he is delighted to have won his first match in charge of the Foxes and he went on to praise the teams ‘unity and togetherness’ they produced on the night.

‘To get the three points against a very good Liverpool team, everyone is delighted,’ Shakespeare told the Leicester City website.

‘As a group, we had to make sure that we showed unity and togetherness. From the word go you could see that we started the game really, really well.

The club’s interim manager also reserved special praised for the clubs supporters contributions leading up to the opening goal.

‘I think the fans were excellent and got behind the team. You could see that the first goal was always going to be important. I think to get the first goal, it gave everyone a lift,’ He added.

‘The fans got behind the team from the word go. The players recognised that. It’s been a strange few days. To get the result tonight was my remit. I tried to do that in the best way possible and to get the three points. I’m delighted for everybody at the Football Club.

‘The performance tonight, I did see it against Manchester City. We are capable of it, but we’ve not done it often enough.’

The Foxes have now moved out of the relegation zone and into 15th in the Premier League standings with 24 points, having won six out of 26 matches played so far this season.

Leicester City will now welcome Hull City to the King Power Stadium when the two side’s meet in the Premier League on Saturday.

Kick-off has been set for 17:00.
