Tottenham Hotspur cruised to a comfortable 4-0 victory over Watford at White Hart Lane in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
The LillyWhites got off to a good start and came close to breaking the deadlock in the seventh minute when Heung-Min Son made a surge down the left before sending a cross into the area, which took a deflection off Janmaat before hitting off the near post.
The Hornets had a chance of their own a minute later when Niang tried his luck from the edge of the box, but his target took a deflection off Toby Aldweireld, forcing Hugo Lloris to punch the ball away to safety.
Spurs had a golden opportunity to take the lead in the 19th minute when Jassen somehow missed an open goal from two yards out when Trippier’s cross found him on the goal line, but he could not react to the ball in time as it struck his knee and hit the bar.
However, Spurs took the lead in the 33rd minute when Dele Alli picked up the ball on the left flank from Son, before cutting inside and curling his effort beyond the reach of Gomes and into the top corner to make it 1-0.
Spurs then doubled their lead six minutes later when Son saw his effort blocked, with the ball falling into the path of Eric Dier, who unleashed a strike at goal to put the ball past Gomes.
With a minute left in the first half, Spurs then added a third when Son collected the ball on the edge of the box, before drilling his left-footed strike beyond the reach of Gomes and into the bottom corner.
Tottenham picked up where they left off in the first half and nearly extended their lead in the second half when Dembele unleashed a strike from distance, but the midfielder could only see his strike deflected wide of the post by Mariappa.
The Hornets had a chance of their own in the 54th minute when Janmaat cut in from the right flank before producing a strike at goal, but his left-footed effort was guided well wide of the post.
Spurs then extended their lead even further in the 54th minute when Son held his composure at the back post to convert Trippier’s cross, burying his effort past Gomes into the bottom corner to make it 4-0.
In the 66th minute Watford had a chance at goal when Okaka made a run down the right before hitting a first-time strike in the inside channel, but his effort trickled harmlessly past the post.
Spurs then had a chance to add a fifth in the 71st minute when Trippier sent Kane into the right inside channel. Gomes came a long way off his line in an attempt to stifle the opening. The striker rounded the keeper, but Kane couldn’t generate enough power to steer his strike into the net.
Kane had another chance at goal in the 77th minute when Trippier sent another inch-perfect cross into the area, but the striker couldn’t make contact with the ball at the near post.
Six minutes later and Son had an opportunity to complete his hat-trick when Kane did well to offload the ball to him in space, but with the goal gaping, he could only fire his effort wide of the target.
In the 84th minute, Spurs came close once again when Son latched on to a pass from Trippier before he smashed an effort against the woodwork.
Spurs held on to their 4-0 lead until the final whistle at White Hart Lane to secure all three points and keep the pressure on leaders Chelsea.
